Bunkers

PRE-SHOT
*Evaluate what kind of shot you need to play
- How high/low do you need to play the shot?
- How will the ball react once it hits the green?
- If height is not an issue, use a lower lofted club
- If there isn't a lip to carry, putt or chip it out.
*How good is your lie?
-If the ball is sitting down or plugged, just get it out
-Beware of uneven lies!
SET-UP
*Clubface open for a shallow divot, clubface square for a deeper divot
*Body aimed slightly left
*Ball belongs slightly forward in stance
*Dig your feet in to get a better feel of the condition of the sand
EXECUTION
*Practice hitting just the sand, focusing on blasting the sand out of the bunker & onto the putting surface (when practicing, not on the golf course!)
*SLICE IT, yes...swing across your body and leave the face open
*DONT keep your head down the entire swing
*Hit the sand first behind the ball (but don’t worry about how far behind)
*Hit it hard and make the sand fly!
*Unlike the full swing, do not release your hands on the follow through
